The vineyard was founded by Mariano Garcia and Javier Zaccagnini in February 1999, in one of the great wine regions of Spain, Ribera del Duero. Their experience gave stability to the project, consolidating it. From 1999 to 2004, Aalto wines were produced in a rented winery in Roa, in the south of Burgos province. All this time, the owners continued their search for a place to build their own winery. They found him in Quitanilla de Arriba, Valladolid province. The first part of the winery located on the 15 ha was completed in 2005. It was completed in 2016, being a special modern architectural achievement, but which fits without ostentation into the typical landscape of the Ribera del Duero. Javier Zaccagnini a left the company in 2018 to dedicate himself to a personal project, Sei Solo. Today, Aalto belongs to the Spanish groups Masaveau, with vineyards in Rioja (Murúa), Rías Baixas (Fillaboa) and Navarra (Pagos de Araiz) and Enate (Somontano), with Mariano Garcia. They control 130 hectares cultivated with Tinto Fino – 40–100-year-old vines of exceptional quality, spread over more than 200 plains located in nine different localities of the appellation. Due to differences in climate and altitude, the vineyards are harvested at different dates.
