Klein Constantia , the estate where it is born, is the first certified wine estate in South Africa, being established in 1685. Being considered one of the most beautiful properties in the world, it is located at the foot of Constantiaberg hill and enjoys of a spectacular view over False Bay. Devastated by phylloxera in the late 19th century, the vineyards that became the property of Dougie Jooste in 1980 were revived and regained their greatness in the past and produced the first wine in 1986. In 2011, the Jooste family sold Klein Constantia to the multibillionaire American of Czech origin Zdenek Bakala and English banker Charles Harman.
